How has Blood Donation Changed Your Life?
How has blood donation changed my life? Well, in many ways actually. When I donated blood the first time, a sense of self-respect and joy swept over me and I couldn’t believe how happy it made me. I wondered after that first time who received my blood and how it helped them. I wondered if it was a mother who had just given birth and needed the blood desperately or if it was one of many people suffering with diseases that couldn’t be cured. I know how much blood is needed; my cousin gave birth and lost three-fourths of her blood. She needed a ton of blood just to make it through delivery. We thought we were going to lose her. But, thanks to all those people who donated blood, she made it. There are thousands of people who stories end like this. If all those people hadn’t donated, the endings would be much worse.
I think when people give blood it is out of the kindness of their heart. When you give blood voluntarily it is such a selfless act. You don’t care who receives your blood, you just hope it helps the person in their life. In many ways, blood donation, has changed my life in more ways than I can ever say. With ever blood donation you get this feeling in you that can only be described as pure joy. Despite the nauseated feeling some people get. I encourage people to donate, I think it will give them a good memory that they can look back on and remember. Just think if everybody that was able to donate gave blood at least once, we wouldn’t have to worry about finding the right kind of blood or worry if we had enough of it. It would make the doctors lives easier as well as the patients. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I have deep respect for those who donate. I think that even if you can’t donate you should at least feel good that you tried.
There are many kinds of donations. Some include whole blood, plasma, red cell, and platelets. Personally I have only given whole blood donations. I really don’t like needles, but I really wanted to give blood, so I gritted my teeth and donated. It really wasn’t that bad, despite the fact that they stuck the needle in twice, and moved it around, while it was in my arm! Yes, it did hurt but I did it so that’s all that counts. To all those who have given plasma, I say good job. You have more guts than me. I plan on giving blood again soon, and will encourage others at my school to give also. Giving blood is going to save someone’s life one day. If they need a blood transfusion but are adopted so no one has their blood type, someone giving blood could help them. So many people are sick or the have had an accident and need blood. There are some many reasons why you should give blood and all of them are good.
Sincerely, Destany Folkner Here is some peers from my school that gave blood.
