Approximately five years ago, my dad started to bruise on his right side by his ribs. We didn’t know what he did, just thought he fell and hurt him self. About a week later the bruising started to spread down his side. My mom was very concerned about it, so she made him go the doctors. At the time the doctors thought he just broke his ribs. They sent him home with some pain medicine and to take it easy for the next week or two and if nothing is getting better just come on back in. The medicine help a little but there was still a lot of pain on his side. It hurt him to move, cough, sneeze, and doing anything that would make him move. My dad is those kind of people that think its nothing and that he will be fine. This time he said he couldn’t take anymore of the pain, so he told my mother that its time to go to the emergency room. While there they gave him medicine to help with the pain but the same thing happened, it helped a little. So they sent him to Saint Francis Hospital to do further testing. The doctors there were also very concerned about the whole thing. They sent him in for a MRI scan, CT scan, X-rays, and he had to draw blood. It took about a day until we got the results back, but when the doctor came in he didn’t look like he had good news. He said that my dad did break 4 ribs, tour some tissue around the ribs, and he is bleeding on the inside. The doctor asked him what he was doing when the pain hit him, he said that he was coughing really hard then heard and felt a pop on his side. So the doctor said that he could do anything for the broken ribs or the torn tissue, but he will be needing a blood transfusion quickly because he has lost a lot of blood during the past three weeks. My dad had to have 5 to 8 big bags of blood put in him to save his life. If it wasn’t for the doctors that took their time to find out what was wrong and the people that gave their blood to save people, my dad that I love dearly would probably not be here in this world. Giving blood saves lives and makes them a hero. The people that gave blood to save my dad is my hero. I thank God every day for that. People need to keep giving blood so that they can save more lives that are even born in the world. If you give, that’s what God has plan for you. Just like he gave his blood to save you. There is a lot of things you can do but giving is the biggest thing you can do. To everyone that has giving and those that are still giving keep it up.
