Why I Gave Blood by Garrett Clark

Many people have different reasons to give blood. Maybe because of a love one or because its just what they want to do. I do because I feel like it’s something I need to do. When I look at he news I see people across the world needing help and support after devastating events that have happened, and I believe that I can help by giving blood. Seeing people like in Africa suffering from the Zika virus that may need to have a blood transfer because of it or maybe someone in the United States that has hemophilia may need plasma to live a better life, and I feel that donating plasma and blood can help these kinds of people and give them a second chance. Also, I can help those with Von Williebrand disease which is caused by a person having a low level of clotting proteins which can be inherited by family, or rarely develop through a person’s lifetime. According to the Red Cross about every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood. When I see that I think what if I was one of those people and I needed blood I would thank someone who has donated blood because that may have saved my life if it was a dire situation. When it comes to someone gets injured or something happens to someone I am one of those people who would put them before me that’s why I donate blood I want someone else to do better than me because that’s just who I am. Also, if it comes to death-dealing situation between me and fellow companion or family member I would want to give everything I have to that person if that meant they were going to make it. The once great president John F. Kennedy once said ” If Not Us, Who? If Not Now, When?” when it comes to something like giving blood if no one gives blood to help a life who will, and if someone doesn’t give blood now than when will they do it. There are cases everyday of people being in accidents that require them to give blood. According to the Red Cross nearly 7,000 units of platelets and 10,000 units of plasma are needed daily in the United States imagine how much is needed world wide. Not to mention the amount of red blood cells that would be needed daily is over 36,000 units. Transfusion is also going to require at least 3 pints of blood, and over 21 million blood components are transfused each year in the United States. I want you to imagine something imagine someone in a car driving then they get into a very deadly car accident and are in severe condition and needs blood that victim would need about 100 pints of blood so his body can go back to normal. I know what your thinking “100 pints for just that one person?” Yeah that’s a lot just for one person imagine if there’s maybe two or three or however many there are you would need to multiply that by one hundred and that’s how many pints of blood you would need for all of them. I know a lot of people have whole different reasons to give blood this is my reason of why I donate blood. So the question I have now is will you give blood?
